In the recent cold weather my water pump went which blew the head gasket on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee 2.5 tdi. The garage told me they had to replace 2 cylinder heads at a cost of £300 each which should be about £1000 + VAT. I told him to go ahead & the final bill came to £1400 which i thought sounded steep. When i got the car back it still didn't seem right & the check engine light kept going on & off, I took it back & was told it was probably just a loose connection, then clouds of black smoke started coming from the exhaust. I took it back & they said the turbo had gone which would cost £5 to 600 + labour & VAT. Are these prices reasonable? Should he have known the turbo was on the way out by diagnostics before he did the original work? If I had known all the problems at the same time I would have scrapped it. Am I being too cynical by thinking that once he had the money for one thing we would have to go ahead with the next problem, whereas he would have got nothing if the car was scrapped!
